In the beginning, God made Heaven and Earth. He created light within the darkness, the birds in the sky, the creatures of the land, and everything we see around us, but the most important creation is man. In Genesis 1:26-27, on the fifth day God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 2:7 tells us that the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
In Genesis 1:26-27 God created man. He came up with the blueprint on how man was going to be and what he was going to do on earth. God designed man in his likeness and image and designed male and female to reproduce man after His own image. So in the beginning God created man and designed a way for man to be reproduced. Going back to Genesis 2, God planted a garden eastward in Eden and placed the man there. In this garden, the Lord God made every tree grow that was pleasant to the eyes and good for food; tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God put the man into the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it and commanded to the man saying, of every tree of the garden you may freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you should not eat from it; for the day you eat of it you shall surely die.
Reading further, The Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone: I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them. So lets pause. In Genesis 2:18 Lord God said it wasn't good for man to be alone. Then in Genesis 2:19, after the Lord God formed the animals he sent them to Adam. The meaning of the name Adam is son of the red earth. From one verse to another he goes from being called the man to Adam.
In Genesis 5:1-2 it's reads, This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
So looking at this verse God tells us that man was already named Adam before we knew his name was Adam. When God thought of man, He already knew his name. He already knew how man was going to be formed and the purpose he would fulfill and the role he was going to play on earth. Now that we know a little bit about man, the way he was formed and what his role on earth is, lets look into the woman.
So He caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh. And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. One of the definitions of a rib is “A long raised piece of stronger or thicker material across a structure or through a structure, and typically serving to support or strengthen it. God made the woman's structure to withstand and endure things the man cannot. Genesis 2:23 says “ And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man. God made woman, the man 2.0. Can somebody say woman is man’s reinforcement haha!
In Genesis 2:20-25, after Adam named all the animals, the Lord God saw that Adam still didn't find an help meet for himself.
From Genesis 1:7, when man was thought of , to Genesis 2:22, when the Lord God made man fall into a deep sleep to make woman, man was always lowercase. Gone look in your bibles. It was after the fact in Genesis 2:23 when Adam said “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man.” Once man acknowledged who Woman was in his life is when he recognized who he was and his title became capitalized . Capitalize means to convert into capital, and capital’s definition is; Wealth in the form of money or other assets owned by a person or organization for a particular purpose. At first Man didn't understand the capital that was attached to his name until after he saw the capital attached to the Woman that came from him. God used Woman to activate the Man. Come on now I feel a shout coming on!
Now in Genesis chapter 3 says, Now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, you, have God said, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden. But of the fruit of the tree which in the midst of the garden, God has said, you shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. Now from Genesis 2:8, when the Lord God planted the garden to Genesis 3, the woman was never told to not eat from the tree in the midst of the garden. In Genesis 2:17, the Lord God commanded the man not to eat of the tree, for the day he did eat of it, he would surely die
The serpent knew that the woman wasn’t going to die because God never gave her the commandment about the tree. The woman was only aware of the commandment because she was made from man, whom the commandment was given to. Genesis 3;4-5, And the serpent said unto the woman, you shall not surely die. For God do know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Genesis 3:6, And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat. Now lets pause there.
Back in Genesis 8;9, The Lord God planted the garden in Eden and put man whom he had formed into the garden. Then He grew every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of good and evil. The definition of also is in addition to. So in addition to every tree that was pleasant to the sight and good for food, was the tree of life and the tree of good and evil. This garden was planted before Woman was made. God didn’t create the tree’s sight to be pleasing to the man nor good for food. But to woman it was both. When we read, nothing happened to the woman or to the man after the woman ate from the tree because the fruit would be used to benefit her and the man.
Remember the Lord God made woman from man’s rib; A long raised piece of stronger or thicker material across a structure or through a structure, and typically serving to support or strengthen it. This was one of those times that made man and woman completely different. There’s some things a woman can endure that a man cannot. It was after the fact that the man ate the fruit from the tree of good and evil that their eyes were open. The woman lacked understanding because the commandment the Lord God gave was never intended for her, though she took it as her own. And when she saw that nothing changed once she ate of the fruit, she gave it to her husband as nourishment. Not knowing that the fruit from the tree of good and evil would affect the man differently. It was the man breaking the commandant God gave him that opened their eyes.
When the Lord God called to Adam in Genesis 3:9, Adam and his wife were hiding. Adam answered God in Genesis 3:10 saying” I heard your voice walking in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Now after their eyes were opened in Genesis 3:7, they knew they were naked and sewed fig leaves together, to make aprons so they would be covered. But in Genesis 3:10 Adam told God he was afraid because they were naked. When in all actuality, they were covered. The man was really afraid because he broke the commandment God gave him. Reading on God said,” Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, I commanded you that you should not eat from? Adam answered, “The woman who you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
God asked the woman, “What is this that you have done? She answered God saying, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. This part is very important because before their eyes were open I'm sure Adam and God had a completely honest relationship due to Adam not having the knowledge of good and evil. But after he ate of the fruit, when God called him, he hid and lied out of fear. Fear was never something God gave to Adam. Then after Adam blamed the woman, don't miss this part. The woman mirrored the man by blaming the serpent. Adam breaking the commandment God gave him, created a domino effect of mankind not owning up to one's actions. The serpent went to the woman, not because she was the weaker vessel, but because she lacked understanding.
Genesis 3:14-15 the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed, it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. Earlier in Genesis 3, the woman saw the tree of good and evil to be desired to make one wise. So as a consequence to the serpent, God put enmity between it and the woman. Enmity means the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something, deep seated dislike. The same knowledge the man gained that opened their eyes is the same knowledge the woman can use to protect the man moving forward from the serpent.
And unto the woman God continues, I will greatly multiple your sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children, and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you. And unto Adam he said, Because you have hearkened unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of thy face shall you eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken, for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return. And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
Genesis 3:22, And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.
Here's a video that explains further about the role of a woman after the agreement with the man and God was broken. I encourage you to listen to this message from Sarah Jakes Roberts. It definitely is very insightful!
